STARTING POINT

Terms of Use

Effective date: September 29, 2026

1. Agreement to these terms

By creating an account, accessing, or using Starting Point, you agree to these Terms of Use and acknowledge the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

“Starting Point” includes the app, website, content, features, and related services operated by Starting Point Services LLC.

2. Adult accounts and family authority

You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter this agreement. Starting Point is made for parents and caregivers; it is not intended for children to create accounts or use independently.

You may provide information about a child only if you are the child’s parent or legal guardian, or otherwise have lawful authority to provide and manage that information. You are responsible for obtaining any permission needed before adding another adult’s information or inviting them to a family space.

3. Your account

Provide accurate information, keep your sign-in credentials secure, and promptly update information that changes. You are responsible for activity through your account unless caused by our failure to use reasonable security measures.

A family owner controls invitations and access to shared family context. Adults you authorize may see shared child and family information. Each adult should use their own login; do not share passwords or impersonate another person.

4. What Starting Point provides

Starting Point is a reflective parenting and family-guidance tool. It may use information you provide—including family profiles, birth details, observations, interests, and reflections—to produce Portraits, prompts, patterns, timing information, scripts, and other personalized content.

Features may change as the service develops. We may add, remove, limit, test, or discontinue features, provided that changes to paid features will be handled consistently with applicable law and any specific purchase terms shown to you.

5. AI-generated content and professional advice

Some Starting Point content is generated or assisted by artificial intelligence. AI output may be incomplete, inaccurate, repetitive, or inappropriate for your circumstances. Review it thoughtfully and use your own judgment.

Starting Point does not provide medical, mental-health, legal, financial, diagnostic, therapeutic, or individualized professional educational advice. It is not a substitute for a qualified professional or emergency service. Do not delay seeking professional help because of something shown in Starting Point.

No result guarantees a particular parenting, relationship, developmental, educational, or personal outcome.

6. Free service and Starting Point+

Starting Point may offer a free tier and paid Starting Point+ plans. Current features, prices, billing periods, trial terms, taxes, and purchase conditions will be shown before you subscribe. Some features may require an active paid plan.

If you choose a recurring Starting Point+ subscription, you authorize the disclosed charge at each billing period until cancellation. Unless the purchase screen states otherwise, a subscription continues through the current paid period after cancellation and does not renew afterward.

You can cancel through the account, app store, or payment service used to subscribe. Refunds are governed by the purchase terms shown at checkout, the policies of the applicable app store or payment provider, and mandatory law. We will provide reasonable notice of price changes before they apply to a future renewal.

7. Your content

You retain ownership of information and original content you submit. You give Starting Point Services LLC a limited, worldwide license to host, copy, process, transmit, and display that content only as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, support, and provide Starting Point, comply with law, and carry out your requests.

You confirm that you have the rights and permissions needed for content you submit. Do not upload unlawful, infringing, deceptive, abusive, or privacy-invasive content.

8. Starting Point’s content and intellectual property

Starting Point’s software, design, branding, templates, methods, and service content are owned by Starting Point Services LLC or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Subject to these terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use Starting Point for your own family and caregiving purposes.

You may save and use personalized output for your own family. You may not copy, scrape, sell, sublicense, reverse engineer, or commercially exploit the service or its underlying content except where applicable law does not allow that restriction.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use Starting Point unlawfully, fraudulently, or to harm, exploit, surveil, or endanger another person.
  • Attempt to access another person’s private reflections, account, or family without authorization.
  • Interfere with security, probe vulnerabilities, introduce malicious code, or overload the service.
  • Use automated methods to scrape, harvest, or extract content or personal information without written permission.
  • Present AI-generated guidance as professional diagnosis or advice, or use Starting Point to make high-stakes decisions without appropriate human review.

10. Suspension, cancellation, and deletion

You may stop using Starting Point at any time. Account & privacy provides controls to export data, remove child profiles, manage family access, and delete your account.

We may restrict or suspend access when reasonably necessary to protect users or the service, investigate suspected misuse, comply with law, or address a material breach of these terms. We may terminate access for a serious or repeated violation, subject to applicable law.

11. Third-party services

Starting Point relies on third-party services for functions such as hosting, authentication, AI-assisted processing, email delivery, payments, and optional integrations. Separate third-party terms may apply when you choose their services. We are not responsible for third-party products or services outside our reasonable control.

12. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Starting Point is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, error-free operation, permanent availability of any feature, or the accuracy of generated content. Nothing in these terms excludes warranties or rights that cannot legally be excluded.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Starting Point Services LLC and its owners, personnel, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or loss of data, profits, goodwill, or opportunity arising from use of Starting Point. Where liability cannot be excluded, our aggregate liability will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid for Starting Point during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim or US $100.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers or limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

13. Changes, applicable law, and contact

We may update these terms as Starting Point changes. We will provide reasonable notice of material changes as required by law. Continuing to use Starting Point after the effective date of updated terms means you accept them, unless applicable law requires another form of consent.

These terms are governed by applicable law, without limiting mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live. Before starting a formal dispute, please contact us so we can try to resolve the issue informally.
