Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 29, 2026
1. Who we are
Starting Point is operated by Starting Point Services LLC (“Starting Point,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy applies to the Starting Point app, website, and related services.
Questions or privacy requests can be sent to nikki@thisisyourstartingpoint.com.
2. Information we collect
We collect information you provide, information created as you use Starting Point, and limited technical information needed to operate the service.
- Account information: your email address, name, sign-in method, and authentication information.
- Email list information: if you join the beta list or sign up for updates, we collect your email address and, if you provide it, your first name.
- Parent and family context: parent profiles, household relationships, parenting intentions, preferences, observations, and information you choose to share about family life.
- Child profile information: information entered by a parent or guardian, which may include a child’s name, birth date, birth time and place, interests, strengths, observations, and related Portrait information.
- Private reflections: Ask Starting Point conversations, personal reflections, triggers, reactions, and feedback associated with your login.
- Generated content: Portraits, guidance, suggestions, family timing information, and other results produced from information you submit.
- Technical information: device and browser details, IP address, security and diagnostic logs, app interactions, and cookies or local storage used for sign-in, security, preferences, and performance.
- Optional integrations: information needed for a feature you choose to connect, such as basic Google account information for Google sign-in or information made available through another enabled integration.
Please provide only information you are comfortable using with the service. Do not submit medical records, government identification numbers, financial account details, or other information that Starting Point does not request.
3. How we use information
We use information to:
- Provide, personalize, maintain, and secure Starting Point.
- Create requested Portraits, reflections, prompts, suggestions, and other AI-assisted features.
- Keep shared family context available to authorized adult family members while keeping private reflections associated with the correct login.
- Authenticate users, manage invitations, provide support, and communicate about service or policy changes.
- Send beta invitations, Starting Point updates, and other communications you requested. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time.
- Process and administer free and Starting Point+ features, including subscriptions when available.
- Diagnose errors, prevent misuse, comply with law, and protect users, Starting Point, and others.
- Understand and improve how the service performs using aggregated or de-identified information where practical.
4. AI-assisted features
Starting Point uses third-party technology and AI service providers to process relevant prompts, profile details, observations, and family context when you request a generated feature. Those providers process information on our behalf to return the requested result and support the service.
AI-generated content can be incomplete, inaccurate, or unexpected. It is intended for reflection and general parenting support, not medical, mental-health, legal, educational, or other professional advice.
5. Shared family context and private reflection
Family profiles, child profiles, Portraits, child observations, and Family Seasons information are shared family context. Adults with active access to the same family may see this information.
Ask Starting Point conversations, personal reflections and triggers, insights about your inner patterns, and personalized “For you” guidance are private to your login. A family owner can manage adult access but cannot use that role to open another adult’s private reflections.
Choose family members carefully. An adult who can view shared family context may remember, copy, or save information outside Starting Point before their access is removed.
6. When information may be disclosed
We do not sell personal information, and Starting Point does not currently use personal information for third-party targeted advertising.
Information may be disclosed:
- To adult family members you invite or authorize, as described above.
- To service providers that support hosting, storage, authentication, email delivery, AI-assisted generation, payments, security, diagnostics, and customer support.
- When reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, investigate misuse, or protect rights, safety, and security.
- In connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of business assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.
- With your direction or consent.
7. Children’s information
Starting Point is designed for adults and is not intended for children to create accounts or use independently. A parent or legal guardian may enter information about a child to receive family guidance. By submitting a child’s information, you confirm that you are the child’s parent or legal guardian, or otherwise have authority to provide it.
Parents can review and edit child profiles, export family data, stop future collection by discontinuing use, and permanently delete a child profile from Account & privacy. Please contact us if you believe a child submitted information directly or without appropriate adult authorization.
8. Legal bases and international processing
Depending on where you live, we process information to perform our agreement with you, based on your consent, to pursue legitimate interests such as operating and securing the service, and to comply with legal obligations. You may withdraw consent where consent is the legal basis, without affecting earlier lawful processing.
Starting Point and its service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Those locations may have different privacy laws from your country. Where required, we use recognized safeguards for international transfers.
9. Retention and deletion
We retain personal information while your account or family space is active and as reasonably necessary to provide requested features, maintain security, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal obligations. Retention varies by the type and purpose of the information.
You can export your information, delete individual child profiles, or delete your account from Account & privacy. Deleting the sole family owner’s account also deletes the shared family space. If another adult has access, ownership must be transferred so their shared family context is not erased unexpectedly.
Deletion removes information from active systems, subject to limited delays for security logs, fraud prevention, legal obligations, and encrypted backups that are isolated from normal use and deleted or overwritten according to backup cycles. Aggregated or de-identified information may be retained where it can no longer reasonably identify a person.
10. Your choices and privacy rights
Starting Point provides in-app controls to review or correct profiles, manage family access, export data, and request deletion. Depending on your location, you may also have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to processing, receive a portable copy, withdraw consent, or complain to a local data protection authority.
Email nikki@thisisyourstartingpoint.com to exercise a right that is not available in the app. We may need to verify your identity and authority before acting, particularly for information about a child or shared family.
11. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. No online service can promise absolute security, so please use a strong password, protect your device, and promptly tell us if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.
12. Changes and contact
We may update this policy as Starting Point changes. If an update materially affects how personal information is used, we will provide notice in the app, by email, or as otherwise required by law.
